SATURDAY, MAY 27, 2023 | 1PM PERFORMANCE | TICKETS: $25
Performance to be Held at:
Palm Beach Central High School Theater, 8499 Forest Hill Blvd, Wellington, FL 33411
Dear Parents and Students,
As a Performing Arts studio, many of our students perform on-stage throughout the year in musical theater productions and full-length ballets.
But, for some of you who are new to the stage, we are pleased to produce an end of the year showcase which offers our students a professionally directed performance allowing them to present to their families and friends the results of a year’s hard work, dedication, and progress.
For our 19th consecutive year, Dance Arts Conservatory Center for the Performing Arts will provide students with an exciting performance experience through its recital. It’s a rite of passage for thousands of youngsters, a chance to shine in front of family and friends that they anticipate with excitement.
A big part of the dance training process includes learning through performance. And while performance opportunities can help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they also contribute to children’s success in non-dance activities helping children build self-esteem, self-assurance, and self-confidence. That onstage experience can result in better in-school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. For these wonderful reasons and more, we look forward to this recital season with each family!
It is our hope that this recital handbook will answer many of your general questions about how the recital process works. Please keep it on hand and reference it as often as you wish so that you will remain clear about the recital process and your specific responsibilities as parents and guardians.
Thank you for your continuing business and for your cooperation in making this recital the best it can be! If you ever have any questions, please always feel free to contact us by email info@danceartsconservatory.com or (561) 296-1880. Your help and support with this creative process will make this year’s recital a successful one!

Recital Updates
As recital week approaches, all recital information and updates will be sent via email. Please make it your responsibility to keep abreast of this important information. It is our goal to make the recital experience organized and exciting for all involved. It’s a team effort: students, their parents, the teachers, and the directors are all key players in the success of the show.
Backstage Moms Volunteers
For the safety of the children, we ask moms to join us backstage to help assist the children on the day of the show. Our backstage moms assure that each child is safe and accounted for and are responsible for making sure each child is in the proper costume, has the proper accessories and shoes, and is on stage at the appropriate time. They are also responsible for seeing that all children return to their appointed dressing room after their performance, and for making sure they are checked out safely into the hands of their parents. To keep recital fees low, backstage moms will be still required to purchase a ticket. All volunteer moms should arrive at the high school at the scheduled time for volunteers on the day of the recital to help set up their backstage dressing rooms and wear solid red shirts, so they are easily identified as being volunteers. Backstage moms can watch their student perform, either from the stage wings or by going out to the audience. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to let us know.
Costumes
We recommend that your child’s name be placed in all costumes, shoes, accessories, and tights. Place costumes in a garment bag with your child’s name on the outside. Pack accessories in a clear plastic bag with your child’s name on the bag and on each item. Hats should be stored in a hatbox or similar container to prevent damage. Please do not wash the costumes in your washing machine; dry clean them only (after the recital).
Tights and Shoes Color
Tights and shoes are not included and must be provided by the dancer. The style of tights and dance shoes that will be required for the recital will be announced for each class. Please purchase new tights for the recital, and do not wear or wash them before the dress rehearsal or performance. (Note: Having a second pair of tights in their bag at the performance offers students and parents a great sense of security).
Hair and Makeup
No nail polish or jewelry should be worn on stage. Red lipstick, moderate blush, light eye shadow, and mascara are all acceptable. For the boys, a little blush works as well. Hair should be worn in a tight, slicked-back bun at the cheekbone line.
Props
All props are the property of Dance Arts Conservatory and are to be returned to the backstage prop master after the performance. Props include such items as wigs, canes, parasols, beach balls, etc.
Lots of preparation is made to make sure that the recital week goes as smoothly as possible. Please read ahead for important details that go into making this special event a success.
Final Classes During the Rehearsal Week
May 22 – May 25, 2023
Please make sure to attend class at the studio the week preceding the recital, as this will be our final chance to polish choreography and run numbers before the show.
Mandatory Dress Rehearsal
Dress Rehearsal to be held at:

Friday - May 26, 2023
Rehearsal times – 5pm-9pm. Specific class rehearsal times TBA the week of the event. Younger students will usually rehearse first, beginning at around 5pm and the rehearsal will finish by 9pm.
Attendance at the high school theater dress rehearsals are mandatory. For the safety of the students, failure to participate in the dress rehearsals may result in the student not being permitted to perform in the show on recital day. The dress rehearsal allows the students to become familiar with the auditorium surroundings and feel comfortable with their performance, costume(s), and being on stage. Lighting, music cues, set changes, and all other logistics for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible. We run an organized and timely dress rehearsal; your help with the process will guarantee a professional production. Please arrive at least 30 minutes PRIOR to your scheduled time, if you are not on stage at the scheduled time you will miss your opportunity to practice your dance on the stage. Please plan on being at the rehearsal for at least 2 hours. Students should arrive with full hair and makeup and in their first performance costume. One parent or guardian should accompany each student to the dress rehearsal to remain with them in the auditorium and assist them with their costume changes. Please do not bring siblings who are not in dance, or any additional friends or family. As soon as your child has run his/her routines, they will be dismissed from the rehearsal.
The Recital Performance

Palm Beach Central High School, 8499 Forest Hill Blvd, Wellington FL 33411
Saturday, May 27, 2023

Student Drop Off is at 12:00pm
Warm up on stage 12:00pm
Performance is at 1:00pm
Pre-Planning
The recital isn’t a one-day activity! Gather all costumes, accessories, shoes, and makeup several days in advance so you’ll know if something is missing or isn’t right. Make a checklist of your child’s routines, listing their costume, tights, shoes, and any accessories, and refer to it to make sure you have your supplies before going to the theater. Bring at least one extra pair of tights in each color they will be performing in. Also bring extra hair gel, hair nets, bobby pins, and hairspray. Other handy extras include: Baby wipes/shout wipes, baby powder, safety pins, band-aids and clear nail polish to repair minor holes or runs in tights when there isn’t time to change them!
Recital Day - Back Stage Student Drop Off
Your child may be dressed in their first costume when they arrive. You should enter through the student back stage entrance next to the parking lot (not through the front of the theater lobby doors) Once inside, follow the posted hallway directions to sign your student in at their designated backstage dressing rooms. With them they should have all costumes, dance shoes, accessories, and some favorite games or coloring books for fun. (All personal dance items should have your child’s name written clearly inside, especially on shoes and costumes!!!) We encourage you to also send along simple, dry snacks (provided they are not too sticky or messy – so that they do not get on your child’s costume!) Students must respect other students’ space and property in the dressing rooms. The students will spend more time in the dressing rooms than onstage, so please do your best to keep them organized and clean. We are always mindful that it is a privilege to use these dressing rooms during our show, and so we must all remember to treat them with respect!
When you drop your child off in the dressing rooms, make sure to first sign them in with the parent volunteers. (Please keep in mind that whoever signs them in when they are dropped off, will need to be the person to sign them out after the show).
Once you feel comfortable with your child's backstage arrangement, you may proceed back outside the building, to re-enter through the theater front lobby doors.
Intermission
DO NOT come backstage during intermission!!! This is a crucial time for many of our little dancers to be changing costumes so please respect their process and privacy by NOT visiting the backrooms mid-show! FOR THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN we don't want any traffic in the back rooms at all! If you are still feeling concerned about your little one and would like to be with him/or her backstage during the show, we welcome you to sign up as a volunteer in their dressing room as a backstage mom!
Students are required to stay until the end of the show for finale bows. FOR THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN, we will not permit any parents backstage for pick-up until all of the children have been returned to their dressing rooms. Once they are all safely returned to their backstage dressing rooms, they will remain dressed in their final costume, and the parents will be permitted backstage to sign them out. Remember, the parent or guardian who signs them in must be the same one to pick them up.
Video and Flash Photography
*Flash photography is a serious distraction and safety issue for our dancers on stage.
PLEASE DO NOT USE FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY!
Absolutely no video recording is permitted (including hand-held phones or video cameras) in the auditorium on the day of the recital. A professional recording is being made of the performance, and DVD’s will be available for purchase in the lobby the day of the show.
Auditorium Rules
No eating, drinking, or smoking is allowed in the auditorium, but drinks and snacks are permitted in the lobby. Please visit our concession stand at intermission.
